As much as I appreciate receiving holiday letters from friends and family, at first they made my 2023 seem rather humdrum.
Sherry and I received dozens of holiday cards with delightful letters and pictures. I’ve never seen so many beautiful beaches. A whole slew of our friends toured historic cities from around the world, places I’ve only read about. Several went on ocean cruises. They all had heaps of fun.
I loved 2023 as well, but from a more local landscape.
Those darn four shepherds kept following me around. They made sure I felt loved on the toughest days.
My greatest surprise was when Sherry and her talented crew built a stairway, made of slices of fallen cottonwood trees, up our little mountain so I could make it to the top and gaze across to Washoe Lake and Slide Mountain. It’s a glimpse of the heaven that awaits me.
The most rewarding part of 2023 was founding a new organization, CONNECTIONS Central, with the goal of bringing people from different backgrounds together to form positive relationships and combat loneliness. I’m blessed with dozens of new friends who have taught me so much.
In retrospect, my 2023 was not humdrum at all.
It was a stupendous year. The Egyptian pyramids will just have to wait.
