Today is my birthday. I’m turning 74, and I’m thankful.
I’m a lucky guy. I have a family who loves me and accepts my peculiarities – most of the time.
I’ve worked for the same spectacular company for over 30 years. My fellow employees allow me to tell stories during lunch and meetings. I still have a key to the front door.
My state of health is pretty good – better than it’s been for a decade.
I thrive in Washoe Valley, Nevada. It’s as fancy and modern as I am. I’ve lived on the same property for 25 years. My wife, Sherry, and I planted almost every one of the hundred-plus trees that provide both shade and memories.
I have four Swiss shepherds who greet me every time I walk through our front gate. They have taught me to fetch the balls I throw for them.
I am blessed with many friends. Some of them date back to high school and college days. My best friends are honest, playful and forgiving. Thank goodness for the forgiving part.
I’m glad I’m 74. It’s going to be a great year.
