Some of you know I have a guardian angel by the name of Augie who visits me when I’m having some doubt in my
life. Augie is a bit clumsy, his wings are underdeveloped and his head is oversized
for the rest of his body. At many times, when I look in a mirror, I see
Augie staring back at me.
I often attempt to rationalize and excuse my faulty behaviors by long-winded
explanations and self-serving conclusions. That’s when Augie shows up to set me
straight.
Imagine this. Last Thanksgiving Day, I was about to inform my elderly neighbor,
Jesse, I was sick and tired of having his big, pesky dog, Elmo, jump on me when
I attempt to open my front gate. It’s wet and muddy outside, and I have on my
new Tommy Hilfiger white shirt.
Sure enough. Elmo leaps on me one more time.
Old Jesse just stands there, not saying a word of apology.
Augie suddenly appears from nowhere with that all-knowing look on his fat face.
I smile and say, “Happy Thanksgiving, Jesse.”
