I just wasn’t hip for around 74 years. But all of that changed in 2019. My original hips kept me from showing off my best dance moves. They also limited my ability to run, then kept me from Tahoe Rim Trail hikes and finally, made it painful to just walk a block.
So in May, I decided to have a total hip replacement on my right side, replacing my arthritic, old hip with a shiny, new, titanium one. My surgeon, Chad (think Doogie Howser), looked far too young to be entrusted with my hip, but I appreciated his no-frills demeanor.
Two months later, my right side was doing great. But my left side was really hurting. I could barely walk. In November, I called up Doogie (I mean Chad) and asked if he had another titanium hip handy. He did. So on Dec. 4, I went back in to have him do his stuff again.
It’s January now. I can move with little pain. Sherry informs me it’s the first time I’ve ever walked a straight line (exactly what does she mean by such a remark?).
I’m retiring my Binder Man cape in 2020. From now on, I’m the swift and nimble Titanium Man, keeping peace and order on the Tahoe Rim Trail.
