Wait! Wait! I think I finally have an original gem of wisdom for people aging (of course, that would be everybody).
Like experts in business, entertainment and education, I steal ideas from people who came before me and put a little personal sauce on to deliver the message as if it’s my own.
However, last night I couldn’t sleep, and I just sat up in bed and started making a list of everyone I know. That’s a bunch of people. And they all had one thing in common. Every individual, in some aspect of life, is smarter than me.
I don’t mean this statement to be self-deprecating. I believe I’m pretty smart and cool. Yet, each person who crossed my mind has something special to offer to me that is beyond my scope of awareness and understanding.
That flies in the face of how I behaved for most of my years. I didn’t, often enough, search out the wisdom my friends and colleagues had to offer. I was too busy dishing out the warmed-up stuff I had copped from others.
Gosh. Just think how wise I might be today if I had recognized 70 years ago that everyone was smarter than me.
And this probably isn’t an original gem of knowledge, either.
