Hey, boys and girls in our 70s and 80s, I know who the real Lone Ranger was! Gather around and let me tell you the story of Bass Reeves.
Bass was born to slave parents in 1838 in Crawford County, Arkansas. Before he died in 1910, Bass had brought over 3,000 outlaws to justice.
How am I so dang sure this terrific black man was THE Lone Ranger?
For one thing, he rode a silver white stallion.
Bass Reeves wore a black mask.
He also often dressed in disguise to get close to the bad guys.
Bass was an expert marksman, displaying two Colt pistols, butt forward for a fast draw.
As a clincher, Bass Reeves always wore a large, white cowboy hat.
So join me one last time. The Lone Ranger rides again!
