After 25 years living on our property in Washoe Valley, Nevada, Sherry and I have learned to happily accept most of our animal friends. Coyotes roam through on an almost daily basis. Bobcats and an occasional mountain lion visit our creek. Black bears are common, including one who entered our living room through an open front window. Hawks and owls often perch on our trees. Deer roam everywhere. Wild horses are common. I’ve learned to appreciate all kinds of snakes except those that have a rattle.
Maintaining peaceful engagements by our four white Swiss shepherds has been a bit of a challenge, but appropriate fencing has worked… for the most part. However, our place has recently attracted a bevy of skunks. All four pups have been sprayed numerous times. They don’t like it. I don’t either.
So I’ve been reading a whole lot about skunks. Advice has been pouring in from “Trapper Paul” and many others.
Bottom line: I like skunks. They kill rattlesnakes. They do other good things when they come out at night. I’m a shy guy. So are skunks. And interesting enough, neither of us like smelly stuff.
I’m old and wise. I’ll figure this out. By the way, tomato juice doesn’t work.
