Yes, we have a new puppy: Jack Newson, the dog, not to be confused with Jack Newsom, the man (Sherry’s dad), or Jack Newsom, the boy (our grandson), or Jack Newsom, the cat (our long-haired beauty).
Jack Newsom is 10 weeks old and staying in our house until he joins his four relatives, the white Swiss shepherds who patrol our lower 10 acres.
I’m learning lessons from Jack Newsom, the dog, and writing them down in my Journal.
This is what I’ve learned so far:
1. Play and play some more. Physically engage with balls of all sizes, empty boxes that need constructional modifications and Aaron Beck’s book on cognitive-behavioral therapy (page 102 is particularly tasty).
2. Go to sleep quickly. Any place will do. Then wake up, ready for action.
3. Pee anywhere except in the designated area in the backyard.
4. Eat quickly and bark for more.
5. Be open to being loved by everybody.
These are good lessons for all of us older folks. Number 5 is a real gem.
