One of the blessings aging has bestowed on me is a major injection of humility. I may have a long way to go, but at least I’m headed in the right direction.
Before I hit my 70s, I took false pride in my accomplishments. I did not take time to figure out what was really going on in my frenetic life. I took credit for what was going right and failed to take ownership of my frequent failures. Now, when I study my successes, I see they came on the shoulders of many others who led me in the right direction.
For me, aging has brought so many experiences, so many chances to understand how big humanity is and what a small player I am in a little corner of it all. Ego was killing my ability to step back and learn from all the wondrous experiences that were gifted to me.
My growing humility is one of my strengths. It is my pathway to knowledge, to wisdom and to personal growth and peace.
I’m sure most of you are ahead of me in embracing humility.
In 2022, I hope to catch up with you.
