I fell down in the deep snow of our winter blizzard and couldn’t get up. My Swiss shepherds went immediately into action.
Nigel Jay, our alpha dog, rushed to the front gate to protect me from dangerous intruders. The only possible intruder in a snow storm is our neighbor Jim, the nicest guy in the world. But Nigel Jay’s intention was nothing but courageous.
Jody Beth, our brightest dog in the pack, hustled back to the house to alert Sherry. Sherry claims Jody Beth is the brightest because she’s the only female. I think it’s because of my subtle training techniques.
Best of all, Zeke and Sammy jumped right on top of me to protect me from the icy snow and the bitter wind (that’s almost 200 pounds of dog on me).
Just like an old Lassie film, Jody Beth leads Sherry to me. Zeke and Sammy are persuaded to get off my chest and Sherry, a champion weight lifter, pulls me up with little effort.
This could be considered a dramatic rescue episode.
As for me, I can’t wait to take another fall tomorrow.
