No big deal! So I broke this old crystal glass a few nights ago while doing the dishes after Sherry had gone to bed. I guess it was passed on from Sherry’s mother, who got it from her mother and so on. It was really old and fragile.
With the holidays and all, I didn’t think the timing was right to let Sherry know of the old, broken crystal glass, so I put it at the bottom of the garbage can. I thought I was doing Sherry a favor.
Then, just last night, Sherry inquired where I might have put her favorite crystal glass.
Here were my options:
1. I’m not sure what glass you are speaking of – we have so many. Have you checked the back of our cabinet?
2. Now that you mention it, I did break a glass a few nights ago. Could that be the one? It was old and fragile, particularly with that long, narrow stem.
3. Sherry, I’m so sorry. I broke your favorite crystal glass. I didn’t have the courage to tell you at the time. I buried the remains at the bottom of the garbage.
You can guess which choice I made. Just remember, I’ve gotten better with such things as I age.
Maybe.
