I have a crush on a new friend.
Maggie moved from California to Carson City a couple years ago. I met her at a CONNECTIONS gathering, and now it’s hard to get her out of my mind. While softly strumming her guitar, she sang several songs she had composed. Later, Maggie shared the inspiration behind her music. It brought me to nostalgic tears.
Days later, I learned Maggie had authored several books. One was about a childhood experience at a summer camp on Franktown Road. The other was a recent tale of an adventure she navigated visiting the 100 post offices spread across the tiny towns of Nevada. The first book came to life with her beautiful watercolor artwork. The second featured her talent as a photographer and author as she captured the personalities of the rugged women who deliverer mail to rural Nevadans.
I keep bumping into Maggie around Carson City. She supports local charities and helps elder folks find joy in aging. She always offers a smile and a story along her way.
Yep, I think I’m in love with Maggie. I’m hoping she invites me to her 93rd birthday celebration next month.
