Recently, I’ve been talking out loud to myself.
I don’t think I did this in my younger days. If I did, I paid no attention to what I was saying. I probably shouldn’t now.
For example, when I see a beautiful sunset, I’ll speak out, “Vern, get your camera.” Well, neither Vern nor anyone else is nearby. Vern, my father, died in 1999, and the closest human is at least a mile away.
Just this morning, I was driving alone in my car and a slow driver ahead of me stayed in the passing lane. I spoke aloud politely, “Sir, they made a lane just for you, and you’re not in it.”
For those who recognize you’re aging, I have a question for you: Do you speak to yourself as though someone else is eager to hear what you have to say, and no one is around?
