If I write another book, it will be titled “Things I Shouldn’t Have Done When I Was a Kid.”
Memories keep floating back to me at the oddest times.
Yesterday, I was vacuuming and suddenly remembered picking up golf balls in sixth grade at the Penkhus Driving Range. Steve, Gary, the Hedburg boys and I made 15 cents a bucket. We’d take our full buckets to an electric ball washing machine and run them through. The balls would come out the other side all white and shiny.
One early morning, we came across a whole bunch of garter snakes playing together. Steve thought they looked a bit dirty, so we put them in a bucket and ran them through the ball washing machine. They came out all soapy and brushed up, the cleanest garter snakes in the state of Iowa. They didn’t seem all that happy and thankful. We put them back where we found them and continued picking up golf balls.
As we age, it’s fun to think back on those special memories.
Do you have one that pops in your head?
