It takes one dynamic person who wishes to make a major contribution to his or her community.
Two years ago, I started a venture called CONNECTIONS. It has blossomed and helped several hundred Northern Nevada residents make fun and meaningful connections with others in their community. I launched CONNECTIONS in response to a major Harvard study that shows supportive, meaningful relationships are the most important factor in leading healthy and happy lives.
I was not surprised at the study’s findings, but it occurred to me that the true value of meaningful relationships wasn’t widely recognized, despite the positive impact on our lives. In fact, it seemed we were in a social drought as people became more isolated, lonely and divided, whether due to the COVID experience, depression, electronic communications replacing human contact, or losing a loved one.
The antidote to loneliness and isolation — and a key to living a good life — is social connection. CONNECTIONS was created as one solution to the need to improve social health in our communities.
I’ve gotten to know many of you through my blogs and books. You are made of the right stuff to make a major difference.
Why don’t you start a CONNECTIONS group? We can help. If you have an interest, I will send you a starter kit that shows you how to get going. We’ll share what we’ve learned over the last two years (what works and what doesn’t), as well as materials and tools we’ve developed. The program is versatile, so you can tailor it to the unique features of your community and add your personal touch.
Will you explore the possibilities with me? Reply with your address and we’ll get started.
