Gregg Richardson is a clinical neuropsychologist. He also had the opportunity to care for his elderly parents in his home for the last few years of their lives.
Gregg led with the love he had for his mom and dad, but he also had the clinical background to observe their physical and mental decline. He describes this in the book “Awakening to Aging.”
I also was blessed with having both my parents living in my home before they passed. It would have been helpful to have read Gregg’s work back then to better understand the stuff that was happening to them from a neurological point of view and respond a little more intelligently.
However, Gregg and I both agree: the expression of love trumps all else. In our little corners of the world, caring for others makes life safer, healthier and warmer.
If you are as lucky as Gregg and me, invest your time in helping those you love age out in a peaceful and caring way. It’s one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself.
