“Once you make a decision, the universe conspires to make it happen.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
Just a minute, Ralph Waldo. The universe has not been so supportive of me recently.
Several months ago, I made the decision to be more social with my neighbors. After living on the same property for decades, I have a challenging time remembering the names of the people living in the houses next door. Using a neighborhood directory, I printed their names on my cheat sheet and prepared for friendly conversation.
I practiced: “That’s a fine looking blue spruce you have there, Joel Williamson.” “Lilly Jones, is that your cute little poodle I hear each morning?”
I was feeling pretty confident about my casual neighborly banter.
In comes the universe with COVID-19 and social distancing.
Good grief, Charlie Brown (he lives in the brown house on the corner).
