As I went through my stack of Christmas cards for a second peek, one stood out.
It really wasn’t a holiday card at all. On the front was a beautiful beach scene at sunset, with no mention of this jolly time of year. Inside, there was no inscribed message wishing me a joyous holiday and a fabulous New Year.
Instead, at the bottom of the card was a lone signature I could not read. It started with a big capital L or J or F, followed by a little curvy line. Even Dick Tracy couldn’t figure out a person’s name from this bold blue scribble.
By chance, I glanced at the back of the card for the first time.
In the same blue ink was one line of writing. I think it reads, “Remember the dunes. A great time.”
Of course, I had thrown away the envelope days ago. Darn it.
So if you sent me this card, thank you.
And don’t do it again. It keeps me up at night.
