Some good ideas I’ve learned over time. I mean decades and decades of time.
If I had been a quicker, brighter student, I might have succeeded earlier in my professional career and not struggled as much in my personal life.
Here is one of my personal secrets (which the Harvard Business Review stole from me in their March 2021 magazine): Always let the other guys think your idea came from them. It’s not downright cheating. It’s more like setting the person up. I give him or her the disconnected touch points of my idea or plan. Then I get this puzzled look on my face and say, “Boy, I just can’t figure it out. What do you think?”
Bingo! Magic happens. Even the most stubborn person will help me construct the solution I already configured in my own mind.
The Harvard Business Review calls it “a more practical approach to persuasion.” I call it victory.
