A wonderful group of my friends retired in their 60s. I asked them what they planned to do with all that extra time.
The most popular answer: golf. Consulting came in a distant second, followed by travel.
A decade or so later, here are the findings from my sophisticated study.
Those who wanted to travel started out with lots of maps and enthusiasm. They traveled to places with neat names. They took a bunch of pictures no one really wanted to see. Within two years, they ran out of curiosity – or money.
Those who fancied themselves consultants quickly found out no one wanted their seasoned expertise. Their stories and savvy aged faster than a ripe banana.
And then there were the full-time golfers. They thought their love for hitting a ball into a cup would grow and grow. They purchased new clubs. They thought they could reduce their handicap. They thought their knees and hips and lower backs would stay strong.
Golfers are my best friends, and I have a one-word tip.
Fore!
