Sherry and I have been blessed with keeping up with 19 dogs in the last few decades. At first, I thought my job was to teach them how to behave. How silly of me. Instead, those puppies were mentoring me, teaching me how to live a happy and healthy life.
A few examples:
Nigel J. Wiggins is still teaching me to be compassionate. His consistent acts of love (a wet kiss, a paw on my knee) make me recognize how small acts of kindness can allow joy to pop up, even in gloomy days.
Way back when, Ponce-de-leon was a master at living in the moment. I learned to find pleasure in the little things that happen every hour.
My tough guy, Wyatt Blue, let me know I didn’t have to roll over every time I was asked. He showed me it was okay to go after the big bone.
Amy Beth Baker continues to teach me to stay close to the people who love me most.
During the cold, snowy days of January, Larry Redbone proved there’s no such thing as bad weather.
When it came to business success, Billy Bragg showed me I should leap higher than what is expected.
I could go on and on, but Sarge let me know I don’t always have to (Sherry tells me I have yet to pick up on this lesson).
