This gets personal, but I think there are two important messages at the end.
I’ve had a 34-inch waist for many years. All my dress pants and jeans are 34s.
Over the last 10 weeks, I’ve had some real issues with walking due to my osteoarthritis, two hip replacements and three back surgeries. In more medical terms, my back is all screwed up. But that’s not the issue at hand. I’ve been feeding my emotions a whole bunch and getting no physical exercise. Now I can’t get my pants on, not even those with the stretchy waist bands.
I’m no dummy. I know when I need professional advice. I approach a close friend of mine who knows a thing or two about clothes.
I try my best to ask my question in a gentlemanly manner. “Hey Lucy, how do you get into jeans if they’re a little tight?” She gives me a smile that says, “oh, you poor old man,” and replies, “Don, the secret is laying down on your bed, stomach up and just buckle them with ease.”
I rushed home to give it a shot. And by golly, Lucy was right.
The lessons to be learned are: never stuff your face with comfort foods week after week with no physical exercise. But if you fail, flop down on your bed to get your pants on.
By the way, I still claim to be a 34. Thanks, Lucy.
