I am so lucky. Many of my friends and associates have positively influenced my career and my life. I’ve been fortunate enough to have had meaningful relationships with some pretty bright and wonderful people.
One individual who changed so many lives for the better was Aaron Beck, the father of cognitive-behavioral therapy. I never met him, but what a joy it would have been to ask him over for dinner. Dr. Beck died last week at age 100. So much of the work of The Change Companies®, particularly for the Department of Justice, was based on the creative genius of Aaron Beck and those researchers and facilitators who followed his lead.
On the personal front, I needed to confront my own faulty beliefs that I had collected over my early lifetime. Holy cow, I was going down so many dangerous and destructive pathways that would have harmed me and those I love.
Thank you, Dr. Beck, for helping me change my thinking to allow me to behave in a more honest and thoughtful manner.
