For those who are aging along with me, have you noticed some longstanding options are being taken away from us?
Here is an example. I’ve always been a cash guy. I still like to pay for things with greenback dollars. It gives me a sense of whether I’m making good choices. Am I getting my money’s worth?
If my cash approach doesn’t work, I fall back on my checkbook. I keep my check register updated: the amount, the date, the check number and the recipient.
So, now I need to pay for an MRI. My insurance company is stalling, so I choose to pay for it on my own. It’s a fair amount: 500 bucks. I reach into my wallet to pull out five one-hundred dollar bills.
“I’m sorry sir, we don’t take cash.”
Okay. I take my checkbook out to make the payment.
“I’m sorry sir, we don’t take personal checks.”
I’m so old-fashioned. I don’t care to use debit or credit cards except for monthly payments.
Okay, I tell myself, no use to complain. I need my MRI.
I pull out my American Express card.
“I’m sorry sir, we don’t accept…”
